Susan James & Paul Lacques @ ONO, Bern - Monday, 02.05.2011.
Susan James and Paul Lacques came to Bern to present the brand new album "Highways, Ghosts, Hearts & Home". Unfortunately this Monday night they had to play before a very small audience @ ONO, a small venue in an ancient cave in the historic centre of Berne.
Nevertheless they started off with a brilliant performance of the "Old Jug Song", Susan playing banjo and Paul electric lap steel. Paul added a touch of psychedelic sound to Susan's beautiful singing. Then Susan took the acoustic guitar and Paul kept changing from electric guitar to lap steel.
Susan sang rhythmic Americana (Airstream Girl), eerie ghost stories (Cold Moon on the Highway) and melancholic ballads (How to fix a broken Girl) and together they created incredible paces and hauntingly beautiful airs. Besides the new songs Susan surprised with her terrific solo interpretation of the Byrds hit "8 Miles high".
Even though they played before a tiny crowd, Susan and Paul were playing a fantastic gig. Cheers for that!
